What makes our office unique?
Both Dr. Birns and Dr. Strocker have specialized training and experience in the evaluation and treatment of ear, nose and throat problems affecting infants and children. We make every effort to care for each child in a loving manner and non-threatening environment in our desire to care for the emotional as well as physical needs of each child.
Our audiologist, Dr. Linda Kissane, specializes in pediatric hearing testing.
The waiting room is kid-friendly with tons of toys and movies to entertain your child.
And, of course, Winston is here almost everyday!
He interned in medicine and was a Head & Neck surgery resident from 1975-1980 at UCLA Center for the Health Sciences, completed his residency and became board-certified in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in 1980.
From 1980 until 2005, Dr. Birns was on faculty at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and is a charter member of ASPO, the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Dr. Birns is a clinical Professor of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at the USC School of Medicine, and has also served as a visiting clinical Assistant Professor at UCLA.
Dr. Birns is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, a specialty fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Society for Ear Nose and Throat Advances in Children, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, the Los Angeles County Medical Association, California Medical Association, and the Los Angeles Pediatric Society. Dr. Birns is on the medical staff of Providence Tarzana Medical Center, and Valley Presbyterian Hospital.
As a father and now a grandfather, Dr. Birns has always taken a great interest in all aspects of the well-being of children, both physical and emotional. In the early 1980’s he led the campaign to change the policy at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to allow parents into the recovery room after surgery. He also changed the rules to minimize or discontinue the preoperative blood tests which were routinely obtained. Today these policy changes have become standard in most hospitals around the country.
Dr. Strocker was an intern and resident in general surgery at UCLA from 2001 through 2003. She completed a residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery between 2003 and 2007.
Dr. Strocker has always had an interest in treating the unique problems of children and performed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in 2007 through 2008. She became board certified in Otolaryngology in June 2008, and recertified in 2017.
Dr. Strocker is an assistant clinical professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at USC-Keck School of Medicine and has been an attending surgeon at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where she specialized in ear reconstruction.
Dr. Strocker is a fellow of the American Academy for Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. She is a member of the Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children, Los Angeles County Medical Association and California Medical Association.
Dr. Strocker is on staff at Providence Tarzana Medical Center and Valley Presbyterian Hospital.
She loves caring for children of all ages and their ear, nose and throat problems. She has a special interest and training in congenital ear deformities and reconstruction.
Dr. Kissane completed an internship with the Veterans Administration, Outpatient Facility in Los Angeles in 1994. She externed at the John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles and completed a 6 month traineeship at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles. After completion of her traineeship, Dr. Kissane vied for and attained a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) position with the House Ear Institute. She was then hired by the House Ear Institute and worked there until 1999.
She subsequently decided to further her education and in 2006 graduated from AT Still University of Health Sciences with a Doctor of Audiology degree.
Dr. Kissane has worked for numerous clinics and private practices and has been with Dr. Birns and Dr. Strocker at Southern California Pediatric ENT Associates since June of 2006.
Michelle Dybas is our office manager who has been with us for over 17 years. She will be glad to assist you with any issues,including billing questions or authorization requests.
Rose Hernandez coordinates the “front office”
and assists in scheduling surgery.
Rocio Rivas is our receptionist,
who will greet you at check-in.
Neeta Patel and Isis Burns are our medical assistants
and will bring you to the exam room.
…And Winston is our therapy dog, who will be happy to
play with you and your children.
